About Tenis Club Lošinj Jadranka

Dear tennis fans!

Tennis was played in this area as early as the beginning of the 20th century. There are numerous written records and photographs of tennis "activities" on the tennis courts at Bricina. After World War II tennis died out on our island. It was only in the mid 70's that it started to be played again due to the development of mass tourism and the intensive building of tennis courts.

The local population's increasing interest in tennis resulted in an initiative to found a tennis club. In 1980 Tennis Club LOSINJ was founded.

It began to organize tennis tournaments and a quite popular school of tennis. Goran Ivanisevic and Iva Majoli, who were then juniors, as well as many other tennis players, participated in the tennis tournaments organized by the club in the 1980s. The war that began in Croatia at the beginning of 1990 left its traces on the activity of the club. Many members took an active part in the Croatian army. In 1994, after a short crisis in the club's functioning, its name was changed into TENNIS CLUB LOSINJ-JADRANKA.

The entering of the firm Jadranka d.d. as the club's main sponsor and the election of a new managing committee meant a turning point in the club’s development. Since then, the club has had quite a lot of success. Our young players have been particularly successful. The long list of their remarkable results was crowned by the reaching of the 1 final at the ORANGE BOWL in the categories of 12 & under and 14 & under by Antonio Veic and Vilim Visak and the winning of the 2002 National Indoor Tennis Championship for juniors aged 16 & under by Vilim Visak. Apart from the success of the young players, the club has also been successful in organizing tournaments. Every year the club organizes 3 tournaments by the Croatian Tennis Association calender for players aged 12 & under and 14 & under and ADRIATIC CUP, an international ETA tournament for juniors aged 16 & under. We also organize an international tennis veterans tournament of the ALPE ADRIA series. We are organizing LOSINJ CUP, an ITF tournament for the first time in 2002.

The club has 112 members, whereof 69 junior male and female players. It is one of the most successful tennis clubs in Croatia. We compete in the West Division of the Croatian Tennis League. The club is one of the most successful sports clubs in the Town of Mali Losinj. Our members, Vilim Visak and Andrea Hadziev have been elected the best sportsman and sportswoman of the Town of Mali Losinj several times.

It should be mentioned that all this would have been impossible to achieve without the help of the Town of Mali Losinj, Mali Losinj Tourist Board and the firm Jadranka d.d.
